I read all the posts - check in numerous times a day and there's so many people having issues I'm gonna chime in.

I love the new Shred - the default presets are IMO amazing sounding. I use Amplitube 3, GR 4, TH1.1 and Waves GTR but for the past week have been putting Shred through it's paces and am really impressed by it... The high-gain stuff is a whole lotta fun (very seldom use clean), the sound quality is top notch in my book, and the amps are all very tweakable... I'm impressed mostly by SKULL and MAHAKALI, the new stomps and the rack effects. Great job guys! The only issue I have is when using REAPER I get a dialog every time I load it about "There is no disk in the drive...etc." I have to click cancel 2 times to dismiss it. I tried moving the PATHS.DAT file out of the folder as it shows locations for everything on drive F: but it didn't help (so I put it back in the Shred folder) - there's another file somewhere telling it to look somewhere else... I don't have this issue in Studio One though - only REAPER. But I can live with this small problem.

Remember:

1) This is a BETA
2) This is FREE - I didn't pay a dime for it

I find the sounds I can get are every bit as good as any of my amp sims and I'm sure once we get some real presets I'll be using this as my #1 sim. It's that good (IN MY OPINION).

Thanks KEN and all of Acmebargig. Thanks for all the hardassed work - I'm loving it and I THINK IT SOUNDS PHAT AND RICH.

-Pat Valella (Strangedogs)

P.S. EDIT: Just finished an early jam (it's 5:30 am here) using SUPER SOUND 1972 - been rockin' for about an hour through headphones & am glad to say this is another great amp!!!

Hey Pat !

To be honest, I almost feel bad that Ken is having all the work and all I seem to do is have fun!
If I did nothing else in life from now to the moment I leave this world... I suspect I would not cover even half of Shred's possibilities!...

Here are a couple of attempts...
I love the stomp boxes. They can REALLY change the tone. This combination sounds almost like an octaver.
You will probably need to high pass filter your guitar to avoid a sound that is too boomy.

Have not even tweaked the amp! This is Shred's opening preset.
Changed the mode to "Crunch" and adjusted the tone knobs to taste.
And was trying the modelled cabs and I have settled for the one shown.

been testing out your preset AlienXXX - really good sounds. I love the stomps and have been experimenting with your settings and adding stomp boxes to accentuate. The Skull, and the Tremolo rack effect are both quality effects IMO. I'm not a Tremolo kind of guy normally but it's fun to play with on clean settings.

Ken,

Just something I wanted to point out...
(When a product is really good, sometimes you don't even notice it!)

...I just realised this when I was thinking about the my experiences with the stomps yesterday.

I have Revalverl HP and the demo version of Revalver MK III and I really like it. I think it brings to the end user a great level of control and the sound is very good too.
Even with Revalver, I almost never got the sound I wanted straight from an amp (or more correctly, from amp + cab). So I almost always felt the need to stick an EQ after the amp to shape the tone. Always found the built in tonestacks too limited and too "blunt" to do a suitable freq shaping.
(please remember I am not a guitar player, so when I compare the effect of the tonestack on an amp sound to the effect of a filter on a synth, I do feel that they are very limited...)

Most of the time the EQ was also there when I was playing with the ABG heads... So, no news here.

I just realised that I have almost never used an EQ on Shred - and I am talking about 1.06 !!!

I am still to explore the 1.5 beta - I have barely touched the tonestacks and done little more than play with the amps as they come (have not created any amp 'hybrids').
But looking at what I could achieve with the stomps alone, I doubt I will ever again need to EQ the sound at the exit of the amp.

So, there you go. Shred is so good that I was not using an EQ after the amp anymore and I had not even realised it !

I take it all back! I take it all back !

Watch out for the very nice filter sweep at the end of the clip.
All done just by moving the mid freq knob on the tonestack while playing.

Input was a synth guitar sound through a compressor, followed by a bitcrusher to dirty the sound and into Shred.
Was trying different hybrid combinations of tonestacks... I will be here for a while!
The tonestack is SOOOOO nice!!! Thanks Ken.

Yeah and each head, each knob has its own little character...For example, The bass knob in Honken functions as a Mid knob too, when bass is off, mid is full
