I just bought a Yamaha Audiogram 3 for putting guitar in to Reaper. I use the Yamaha ASIO drivers and get good latency, but I don't have any way of disabling the direct monitoring. I get the clean signal mixed with the signal affected by Shred, which is not I what I want.

There's no monitor/mix knob, and no specific software, only the drivers that come with it. I can't believe they'd leave this feature out! It's a great interface for the price. Sounds great.

Any ideas?

I will take it back to the store if I can't resolve this issue, so I'm open to suggestions of other audio interfaces under 100$ that allow control of the direct monitoring.

Thanks in advance,
Phil

Here, Reaper forum, Yahoo Answers...
Jeez man, do you typically post a question on every forum possible?
The driver should have included a 'mixer' interface; that's where you have to disable the direct monitoring.
That should be pretty obvious.

Yep I post all over the place! ;) I found so little information about this interface on the web, it's strange.

I agree, the driver should have a mixer interface, that's what the EMU card has on my old computer, but I can't find one anywhere :?

I'll keep on trying...

Ok, I found that it's not possible with that interface. Bummer. Back to the store I go.....

Anyone got the cheap m-audio fast track ? does that do direct monitoring?

Ken I might get one, can't get much simpler than that!

I tried 2 of the cheap Fastracks - both were flaky... I then bought a $99 Line 6 Pod Studio GX1 - works sweet.

You mean you tried one of these? :

That's a shame they're flaky because that was my next choice!

I have both an M-Audio Fastrack (on my main computer) and a Line6 toneport GX (which I use with my laptop).

M-Audio = great hardware, 'iffy' drivers. It has a few quirks that you get used too. For example, boot the PC and it tells me post boot it can't find the device - however it has found the device (and it's working fine) so you just close the dialogue box and continue on your merry way. The M-Audio asio drivers give me fantastic low latency - however are prone to bug out randomly after about 30 mins or so. As such I switch to the M-Audio asio drivers for recording guitar parts, then switch to asio4all for monitoring/mixing or if I'm programming keys/midi. One other thing, make sure you use a good shielded USB cable with it as otherwise it seems to be a bit prone to USB line noise.

Line 6 = pretty rock solid but very basic, the line 6 drivers are also as clunky as hell with horrible latency, so make sure you use asio4all. There is no mix knob to worry about, just outputs the processed signal (unless you set your DAW to output the dry signal)

They both have their good and points, but for me the M-Audio wins due to having multiple outputs and inputs (as I run line level out, into a stereo monitor power amp then to monitor speakers)
