That should read "From clean to REAL dirt.. The Mow-you-down sound".. lol

There’s a huge range to Tamla. This ones nice and loud, lots of range on the gain, and beefier than the original. Excellent! Playing with the trebble booster and tone stack kinda gives a single coil sound, spanky if you want it that way, or it cleans up nice to.

Can you record a track so I can tell how dirty it ois getting on your system. Also if possible can you include the DI..
Thanks man.. It should not get really dirty, but more like an Angus Young kind of Dirty. If it goes too far beyond that Tamla will loose its character and start sounding like shit..

The DI will help a lot because we are varying quite vastly in our experiences with these heads…

Sure, I can do that. It might be a day or two before I can because the weekends are full of our kids sports so time is limited, but I will do that for sure!

You have to have a specific set that you intended as you building this, Ken. AFAIK, Angus young type of tone is easily achieved with a hot humbucking pickup into a Plexi or similar non-master volume amp..loud and overdriven.

Ken, I snuck a few minutes in to record some examples, will pm you in just a minute with a link. I think Tamla has come out just as you intended. My mow you down comment may have made you panic, sorry for that but I just meant it goes far beyond motown. It’s an excellent "Angus" type of sound when you drive it.

If you want another head checked let me know, I’ll do the same thing as time permits. I think the others are worth checking since I had the biggest volume issues with a few of them.

    no over the top gain.
in fact, plenty of volume here! getting to ideal is not too hard but really, I’m locked up to bluesy licks while testing this…tamla..

Maybe I’ll give it a shot to metal sounds.

Scott, you are doing great, I wasn’t panicking, second opinions are the corner stone of good testing practice anyways.. <img src=” title=”Smile” />

    EDIT:
I just listened to the DI you sent and yes Tamla is too hot, so I think I need to turn the Gain down a little. The one with gains at 25% is what it should sound like with the gains full and TB Full..

Awesome, glad the level of my di was ok. That makes me feel good because when I was running through my maudio card I was able to have full control over the level of my signal hitting the DAWs input. Now that I have a usb interface there is no software control for the signal flowing through the usb into Reaper. My options are whatever the gain is set at on the front of the unit and I actually have the -10db pad enabled goin into the interface because I can occasionaly clip it with really heavy chugging. The -10pad seems to have a little affect of what hits the input of an amp sim so I was sure my gains were in the right ballpark.

Oh, and Mow-you-down was my cheesy way of saying Motown with a lot of extra gain lol.

New guy here, floundering around having a ball with this stuff. I tried Tamla Sat and found I had to turn the gain(s) both down to almost nada. So I would concur that lowering the gain would be a good idea if you’re really going to vintage type tones.

But to be fair, I will play with it some more, messing with the other controls.
Again, thanks for super products…dirt cheap!

OK, I left all the controls at noon and dialed gain 1 to zero. That is in the neighborhood of some very usable tone in a set neck tele. Certainly seems to more closely emulate power amp break up rather than pre. Intro to layla actually sounded very cool in the both pickup switch.
Note to Ken. I’m mostly right hemisphere oriented day and night, so any feedback on my comments – not specific enough or whatever is fine with me. So, plz let me know.

Well one thing to remember is that all these heads react to outside stimulous like a real head would. So in this case we are talking input level. If you have less signal coming in, the breakup will be less.

So, what is everyone’s average recording level?
